Alumni News: Chalk Productions Win Award for ‘Best Single Documentary’ at the Royal Television Society Southern Awards

This month programme alumni members, Chalk Productions, took home the award for ‘Best Single Documentary’ at the Royal Television Society Southern Awards for their documentary ‘In My Own Words : Alison Lapper‘. The documentary has been an incredible success for the company, featuring on BBC One and IPlayer in September.

Chalk Productions, a production company from East Sussex, joined the Create South East programme for our fourth cohort of businesses in 2024 and have since pitched at our cohort showcase in January, as well as featuring at the Creative UK National Investment Summit in March.

Founder, Victoria Holden, said that their experience on the programme ‘showed us that sky is the limit’ and that their ‘mentor and investors supporting the programme have encouraged us to upscale our plans’. Whilst on the programme, Victoria has also opened another business with co-founder and Technical Director, Bruce Buxton. This new endeavour builds upon the team’s expertise, offering ‘a bespoke media platform for content creators. It provides storage, project management, transcription, cataloguing and consent all in one place.’

Chalk Productions were winners of an Innovate Smart Grant last year which propelled their building of the MotionHub platform and capabilities. Now managing both businesses, Victoria and the team continue to thrive by offering high quality services and productions.

Having won the award for Best Single Documentary, Victoria said:

‘When I set up CHALK Productions TV we wanted to make impactful content with emotion and heart which is exactly how the judges described Alison Lapper In My Own Words.’ The documentary follows Alison, her life, her artistry, and the loss of her son Parys, in an intimate and moving production.
